It is officially fall! Well it is fall in my book anyway! Louisiana will slowly inch its way to cooler temperatures in the next few months and I will continue to take joy in the cooler mornings and evenings. I will use this time to dress in my fall best and await consistency from the crazy bayou state weather. A fun fact about me is that October is my 2nd favorite month! It is my birthday month and marks the start of cooler temperatures. My mom said as a kid I would literally pray for "cold weather" on my birthday. I have always been a little fall obsessed. Before fall was about pumpkin spice lattes and the launch of Bath and Body Works fall candles, it was simply about feeling cool weather on my birthday! Now I revel in every blissful fall element with October being the cherry on top the autumn cake! Fall...over commercialized you bet, but worth every bit of hype it gets!
Let's talk fall fashion favorites! In one word: FLARES! Goodness I am glad to see this trend return! I have always had a slight intrigue with 70's fashion. It started as a child flipping through photos of my mom wearing her high waisted flared jeans and her Farrah Fawcett feathered hair! She was beautiful ( as she is in every decade)! We have seen the 70's trend popping up for the past few seasons. I think it is safe to say it will be staying around for a while, making me one happy girl! Am I saying you need to discard your favorite skinny jeans...heck no! I am simply suggesting you give a flare a fighting chance for a place in you heart or at least your closet!
Let's talk about structure. Flares are wonderful for elongating the body giving the illusion that one is taller then they are. When shopping for flares go for a fit that is higher in the waist ( to your comfort level) and a length that skims the ground! Then throw on a pair of wedges or your tallest platform hills. The jean length is key in elongating the body as it will give the appearance of a tall statues build. Already tall, then you should totally rock this trend! Own your height and don't be afraid of looking "too tall"! You will look fabulous lady! Denim wash, or color if you will, is totally a personal preference. However, a word of advice that my mom has always taught me, "darker colors make things look smaller". My mom is so wise! I tend to go for a dark wash denim most of the time. I am 5'2 and have a curvier bottom half. For my figure, a darker wash best suites my preference. That being said don't be afraid of lighter washes! A word of advise from my Maw Maw " if ya got it, flaunt it"! Haha!
